Charity
(Joe Pereira)
You see the tears, you hear the cries,
church is broken, it’s no surprise.
They give you hope, they give you light,
But every gift has a hidden price
They take your trust, they take your name,
leave you drowning in their fame
They build the doors and they own the keys,
Your faith is what they need.
Charity, is all for show
Behind the smile, a darker glow.
So praise the giver, kneel and pray,
But know the cost you’ll have to pay
You’ll pay someday
Charity, oh charity
Never what it seems
Not what it seems
They lift you up, they make you whole,
But you know they’re in control
Every good deed’s just a debt you owe,
And they’ll be there to collect, I know.
Charity, look what it’s done for me
Raised me up, only to their knees
The hand that gives yet seeks to gain
Is a rainbow to mask the rain
Charity, is all for show,
Behind the smile, a darker glow.
So praise the giver, kneel and pray,
But know the cost you’ll have to pay
You’ll pay someday
Charity, oh charity
Never what it seems
Never what it seems
