Hotel Check In
One is feeling lonely
a divorce and grown up kids have moved away
the other is missing someone
married years ago but wife still lives away
J’s contemplating again
whether those all around him are alive
Swifty is changing jobs again
won’t stay long, can’t stay still ‘cause variety
is his spice of life
Those who are single
talk of being free
never of loneliness
although it’s plain to see
I hear confessions
and often their cries
mostly at closing time
when we all say goodbye
Full of aspirations
clinging on to dreams of what life might become
some will keep on hoping
music will, eventually, provide income
Most are happy plodding along
day to day, week to month
and year to year
Other put on the bravest of smiles
hoping life will abate or ease their fears
or wipe away their tears
